Louise Ross of The Legacy, at Mawdesley, came to speak to us on Harvest Sunday telling us about the work carried out at The Legacy, helping children with disabilities and giving their guests invaluable support. Thanks once again for your love and support for this cause - we were able to send £370 to help with the work they do.
As one of the website administrators, I often wonder if there is anyone out there in the wide world reading the articles and updates which I put on the website each month. Well…the answer is Yes! In fact, we have thousands of visitors - 2,183 in the last year. Thanks to Stuart Howard who maintains the “back-side” of the website, and who has produced a detailed report of activity for the last 12 months, I was able to see who, where, when, what, and how often, our visitors access the information and news.
Thousands enjoyed their time with us over the weekend and it was lovely to welcome them all to our village. You can see some of the scarecrows on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Blackrod-Scarecrow-Festival/112867795472460?sk=wall
Blackrod Primary School raised £2000, Blackrod Church School £2200, the Methodist chapel £1750 for spending on their projects and £700 has been sent to Help the Heroes. Over £2100 was raised from the sale of programmes and quiz sheets and we are looking at the best way to use this money within the village.
Put these dates in your diary for 2012 - 7th and 8th July. See you then!
A new group has been set up in the village and we hope to raise money to help with the repair of the east wall and window at St Katharine's Church. Work needs to start soon and will be costly, so we are holding various events throughout the year under the banner of "Friends of St Katharine's". Please support us as much as you can.
If you are interested in needlework you are welcome to come along and join with like-minded people for a friendly Monday morning at St Katharine's. Bring your own work, or join in with one of our projects or just come for a coffee and a chat! We meet each Monday (except Bank Holidays) from 10am to 12.30pm. For more information please contact Mary Pryle 01204 697763. Use Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and in all meetings for which we have responsibility. Encourage the use of other Fairtrade products such as sugar, biscuits and fruit. Promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and during the year through events, worship and other activities whenever possible.
